Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician, physicist, and philosopher. He is widely considered to be one of the most influential scientists of all time. His book Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica laid the foundations of classical mechanics. Newton also made seminal contributions to optics and shares credit with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz for developing calculus.
Newton’s major breakthrough came in 1666, when he began developing his gravity theory. In 1687, he published his most famous work, Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica. It laid the foundations of classical mechanics. Newton also made significant contributions to optics and developed the calculus.
