How to create paint by numbers

Paint by numbers turns a photo or text prompt into a numbered template with a matching color palette. You get outlines, numbers, and download options for printing or digital painting.

How to create paint by numbers

  1. Choose a source: upload one image, or enter an English text prompt.
  2. Adjust settings such as number of colors, detail cleanup, and canvas size. A live preview updates as you change values.
  3. Optionally use premium extras such as AI filter preprocessing or a custom palette from Virtual Artist Lab.
  4. Click Create now and wait while the template is generated.
  5. When ready, download, print, change the number of colors, or edit colors and strokes.

Helpful settings

  • Fewer colors (about 7–15): easier for beginners and kids
  • More colors (30+): closer to the original photo, longer to paint
  • Detail filters and merge options: reduce tiny regions and hairline shapes
  • Canvas size: match the size you plan to print or paint on

Downloads

Common downloads include SVG, PNG, and PDF templates, colored references, and palette files. Vector PDF is usually best for printing at different sizes.

Processing often takes one to several minutes. High color counts, palette mixing, or AI preprocessing can take longer.
